"Get your .com for ₹1!" Every registrar in India shows an offer like this, but the real domain name price in India is what you pay over three or five years, after renewals, GST and add-ons. Many first-time buyers pay ₹1 in year one and then get a ₹1,800+ renewal bill they did not expect. This guide compares first-year and renewal prices for .com, .in and .co.in at Hostinger, GoDaddy, BigRock, Namecheap and Cloudflare, explains GST and hidden costs, and gives you a simple way to pick the right extension and registrar so you do not overpay.
Quick answer: As of October 2026, a .com domain in India costs ₹1–₹750 in the first year on offers, but renews at about ₹1,480–₹1,600 per year before 18% GST. A .in domain renews at about ₹850–₹1,160 per year and a .co.in at about ₹750–₹820. Always compare renewal price and the multi-year total, not the first-year offer.
How domain pricing works in India
A domain is not bought once. You rent it, usually for 1 to 10 years, and must renew before it expires. Three prices matter:
- Registration (first year): often heavily discounted, sometimes ₹1.
- Renewal: the normal yearly price you pay from year two onwards. This is where registrars make their money.
- Transfer: the price to move the domain to another registrar (it usually adds one year of renewal).
Who sets the base cost?
- .com is run by Verisign, and ICANN adds a small yearly fee. Registrars add their margin on top.
- .in and .co.in are India's country-code domains, managed by NIXI (National Internet Exchange of India). Registrars like Hostinger, GoDaddy and BigRock resell them.

Domain name price in India: comparison table
These prices were checked on each registrar's official India website on 10 October 2026. They are excluding 18% GST unless noted, and offers change often, so treat this as a snapshot and confirm at checkout.
| Registrar | .com 1st year | .com renewal | .in 1st year | .in renewal | .co.in 1st year | .co.in renewal |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Hostinger | ₹1* | ₹1,499 | ₹1* | ₹899 | ₹499 | ₹799 |
| GoDaddy India | ₹1* | ₹1,599 | ₹1* | ₹899 | ₹1* | ₹749 |
| BigRock | ₹749 (₹1 with 3-yr deal) | ₹1,479 | ₹549 | ₹899 | ₹669 | ₹819 |
| Namecheap (billed in USD) | $10.98 sale (≈ ₹1,062) | $18.48 (≈ ₹1,788) | $9.98 (≈ ₹965) | $11.98 (≈ ₹1,159) | $7.98 (≈ ₹772) | $9.48 (≈ ₹917) |
| Cloudflare Registrar | $10.46 at cost (≈ ₹1,012) | $10.46 now; about $11.17 after 1 Nov 2026 (≈ ₹1,080) | Not offered | Not offered | Not offered | Not offered |
* ₹1 first-year offers require a 3-year purchase; years two and three are charged at the renewal price. Hostinger shows "Best value for 3 year term" on its ₹1 offers; GoDaddy states "3-year purchase required". Hostinger's price list confirms "First-year discount only with a 3-year term"; on a 1-year purchase you pay the full ₹1,499 (.com) or ₹899 (.in) in year one.
Namecheap shows ₹ estimates for Indian visitors but bills in US dollars, so the final rupee amount depends on the exchange rate and your bank's forex charges. The ₹ figures for Namecheap and Cloudflare above use ₹96.73 per US dollar (reference rate, 9 October 2026). Cloudflare's .com price is the registry wholesale fee plus the $0.20 ICANN fee; Verisign is raising the .com wholesale fee from $10.26 to $10.97 on 1 November 2026, so expect Cloudflare's .com price to move to about $11.17 from then (other registrars may also raise .com prices). Cloudflare's supported TLD list (opens in new tab) did not include .in or .co.in when we checked.

.com domain price in India
.com is the most popular and most trusted extension worldwide. It is the right choice if your audience is global or you plan to grow beyond India.
- Hostinger: ₹1 for the first year on a 3-year term, then ₹1,499/year. A small ICANN fee (shown as ₹17.44 when we checked) is added, and WHOIS privacy is free. Source: Hostinger .com domain page (opens in new tab).
- GoDaddy India: ₹1 for the first year with a 3-year purchase required, then ₹1,599 for each additional year.
- BigRock: ₹749 for one year (or ₹1 on its 3-year homepage deal), with renewal at ₹1,479/year, per the BigRock domain price list (opens in new tab).
- Namecheap: $10.98 first year on sale (regular $14.98; Namecheap also showed a one-time new-customer price of about ₹657), renewing at $18.48 (about ₹1,788), plus the $0.20 ICANN fee; free privacy. Prices as of October 2026. See the Namecheap .com page (opens in new tab).
Bottom line: Over three years, a .com costs roughly ₹3,000–₹3,200 before GST at most Indian registrars, even with a "₹1" headline.
.in domain price
.in is India's own domain. It tells visitors and Google that you serve India, and short .in names are easier to find than short .com names.
- Hostinger: ₹1 first year (3-year term), then ₹899/year. Hostinger confirms this on its .in page: "a .in domain costs ₹1 for the first year. After that, the renewal fee is ₹899/year."
- GoDaddy India: ₹1 first year with 3-year purchase required; additional years ₹899.
- BigRock: ₹549 for one year, ₹899 renewal.
- Namecheap: $9.98 (about ₹965) first year on sale, $11.98 (about ₹1,159) renewal, billed in USD. Namecheap lists domain privacy as not supported for .in.
Note that WHOIS privacy add-ons are not available for .in: the .IN Registry's terms for registrants (opens in new tab) do not allow proxy or privacy services, and NIXI requires KYC of registrants. However, the registry's own public WHOIS (whois.nixiregistry.in (opens in new tab)) already shows "REDACTED FOR PRIVACY" for the registrant's name, street address and phone, and hides the email, as of October 2026. The state and country (and organisation name, if you enter one) are still shown.
.co.in domain price
.co.in is meant for commercial use in India. It is often available when the .in is taken.
- Hostinger: ₹499 first year, ₹799 renewal.
- GoDaddy India: ₹1 first year (3-year purchase), ₹749 per additional year.
- BigRock: ₹669 first year, ₹819 renewal.
.co.in is usually the cheapest Indian extension to renew, but it is less memorable than .in or .com. Many people type .com or .in by habit and miss the .co.
3-year total cost: the number that matters
Here is the realistic 3-year cost, before GST, using the snapshot prices above (first year + two renewals):
| Extension | Hostinger | GoDaddy India | BigRock (1-yr price + 2 renewals) |
|---|---|---|---|
| .com | ₹1 + ₹1,499 × 2 = ₹2,999 | ₹1 + ₹1,599 × 2 = ₹3,199 | ₹749 + ₹1,479 × 2 = ₹3,707 |
| .in | ₹1 + ₹899 × 2 = ₹1,799 | ₹1 + ₹899 × 2 = ₹1,799 | ₹549 + ₹899 × 2 = ₹2,347 |
| .co.in | ₹499 + ₹799 × 2 = ₹2,097 | ₹1 + ₹749 × 2 = ₹1,499 | ₹669 + ₹819 × 2 = ₹2,307 |
Add 18% GST to these totals for the final amount. For example, ₹2,999 + 18% ≈ ₹3,539 for a 3-year .com at Hostinger.
The pattern is clear: ₹1 deals are genuinely good value if you plan to keep the domain for 3 years, because the total is still lower than paying a normal first-year price. They are poor value if you only need the domain for a short project.
Hidden costs: GST, privacy, ICANN fee and more
- 18% GST. Indian registrars add 18% GST on domain registration and renewal. Business buyers can enter a GSTIN at checkout and claim input tax credit.
- ICANN fee. A small yearly fee (US$0.20) on gTLDs like .com, often shown separately (e.g. ₹17.44 at Hostinger when we checked).
- WHOIS privacy. Free at Hostinger (for supported TLDs), Namecheap and Cloudflare, and GoDaddy India advertises "free domain privacy protection, forever" on eligible domains. GoDaddy separately sells paid add-ons such as Domain Ownership Protection, and other registrars sell "protection" bundles; untick them in your cart if you do not need them.
- Pre-ticked add-ons. Carts often add email, SSL, "domain protection" or website builders. Untick what you do not need. Free SSL is available on almost every host, see our guide to free SSL certificates.
- Forex charges on USD billing. Paying Namecheap or Cloudflare in dollars can add bank forex markup (often a few percent) plus GST on that markup.
- Late renewal and redemption fees. If the domain expires, you usually get a grace period. After that, the domain enters "redemption", where restoring it costs far more than a normal renewal. For .in, the registry alone charges registrars a ₹1,000 restore fee (per the .IN Registry policies (opens in new tab)), and each registrar adds its own redemption charge on top. Check your registrar's redemption price in its pricing or help pages before the domain expires, or you may lose it entirely.
- Premium domains. Short or dictionary-word domains marked "Premium" can cost ₹10,000 to lakhs, and some renew at premium prices too.
- Transfer cost. Moving to another registrar usually costs one year's renewal (which extends your expiry by a year).

Which registrar should you choose?
Each registrar has a clear best-fit user. Recommend honestly:
Hostinger: best if you also need hosting
- Pros: ₹1 first-year .com and .in on 3-year terms, free WHOIS privacy on supported TLDs, simple hPanel DNS, UPI payment. Many hosting plans include a free domain for the first year.
- Cons: renewal is the normal price; the ₹1 deal needs a 3-year commitment.
- Not for: people who only want a single 1-year domain.
- Read our Hostinger review or.
BigRock: Indian registrar with rupee pricing and local support
- Pros: transparent rupee price table, Indian support, cheap 1-year .in at ₹549, multi-year discounts.
- Cons: .com renewal at ₹1,479 is similar to others; the panel feels dated; upsells at checkout.
- Not for: people who want free privacy on everything.
.
GoDaddy India: biggest brand, strong ₹1 offers
- Pros: ₹1 first year on .com, .in and .co.in with 3-year purchase; widely known; 24/7 support.
- Cons: .com renewal at ₹1,599 is among the higher ones; many upsells in the cart.
- Not for: buyers who dislike aggressive upselling.
Namecheap: transparent global pricing
- Pros: free WHOIS privacy on eligible domains, clean interface.
- Cons: billed in USD (forex charges), support is chat-based, .com renewal ($18.48) and .in pricing are higher than Indian registrars.
- Not for: users who must pay by UPI.
.
Cloudflare Registrar: cheapest long-term .com
- Pros: sells at wholesale cost with no markup; free privacy; excellent DNS.
- Cons: no .in or .co.in; you must use Cloudflare DNS; card/PayPal billing in USD.
- Not for: anyone who wants a .in domain or a ₹1 first year.

How to pick the right domain extension
| Your situation | Best extension | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Indian business, shop or service | .in | Local trust, often available, reasonable renewal |
| Global audience, SaaS, international clients | .com | Most trusted worldwide |
| Indian company and .in is taken | .co.in | Cheap renewal, clearly Indian |
| Personal blog or portfolio | .in or .com | Both fine; choose the shorter name |
| Very tight budget, short project | Cheap 1-year .in (e.g. BigRock ₹549) | Low first-year price without 3-year lock-in |
Tips for choosing the name itself:
- Keep it short, easy to spell and say on a phone call.
- Avoid hyphens and numbers.
- Buy both
.inand.comif your brand matters and both are available, and redirect one to the other. - Check trademarks and social handles before buying.

Tips to pay less for your domain
- Compare the 3-year total, not the headline price.
- Take the free domain with hosting if you are buying hosting anyway; compare plans in our best web hosting in India guide. Remember the domain renews at full price after year one.
- Turn on auto-renew and keep a valid card or UPI mandate, so you never pay redemption fees.
- Untick add-ons you do not need (email, SSL, protection bundles).
- Use renewal coupons where available, and check if transferring to another registrar is cheaper at renewal time.
- Enter your GSTIN if you are a registered business, to claim input tax credit.
- Do not buy premium domains unless the name truly matters to your brand.
Key takeaways
- The real domain name price in India is the renewal price and the 3-year total, not the ₹1 offer.
- As of 10 October 2026 (before GST): .com renews at about ₹1,479–₹1,599, .in at about ₹899, and .co.in at about ₹749–₹819 at Indian registrars.
- ₹1 first-year offers usually require a 3-year purchase; they are good value if you will keep the domain.
- Add 18% GST, and watch for add-ons, redemption fees and forex charges.
- Choose .in for Indian audiences, .com for global ones, and .co.in when .in is taken.
Conclusion
The domain name price in India looks like ₹1 on banners, but the honest number is the renewal price and the 3-year total. As of October 2026, plan on roughly ₹3,000–₹3,200 for three years of .com and ₹1,800 for three years of .in before GST at major Indian registrars. Choose .in for Indian audiences, .com for global reach, turn on auto-renew and skip unnecessary add-ons.

FAQ
Frequently Asked Questions
What is the price of a domain name in India per year?
As of October 2026, a domain in India typically costs ₹750–₹1,600 per year at normal renewal prices, before 18% GST. A .com renews at about ₹1,479–₹1,599, a .in at about ₹899 and a .co.in at about ₹749–₹819 at Indian registrars. First-year offers can be as low as ₹1 with a 3-year purchase.
Which is cheaper, .in or .com?
A .in domain is usually cheaper than a .com in India. At Indian registrars, .in renews at about ₹899 per year, while .com renews at about ₹1,479–₹1,599 per year before GST, as of October 2026. Over three years, a .in typically costs ₹1,200 to ₹1,400 less than a .com.
Is the ₹1 domain offer real?
Yes, but with conditions. Registrars like GoDaddy and Hostinger offer ₹1 for the first year when you buy a 3-year term, so years two and three are charged at the full renewal price upfront or at renewal. GST is extra. It is good value if you plan to keep the domain at least three years.
Is GST charged on domain names in India?
Yes. Indian registrars add 18% GST on domain registration, renewal and transfer. For example, a ₹1,499 renewal becomes about ₹1,769 after GST. Registered businesses can enter their GSTIN at checkout and claim input tax credit. Foreign registrars billing in dollars may also lead to forex charges from your bank.
Why is domain renewal more expensive than registration?
Registrars use low first-year prices to win customers, sometimes selling below their own cost, and recover the money through renewals. The renewal price is the registrar's normal price for the domain. That is why you should compare renewal prices and the 3-year total cost before choosing a registrar, not just the first-year offer.
Which is the cheapest domain registrar in India?
It depends on the extension and how long you keep the domain. For a 3-year .com or .in, Hostinger and GoDaddy's ₹1 first-year deals give a low total. For a single-year .in, BigRock's ₹549 is cheap. For long-term .com renewals, Cloudflare sells at cost, but it does not offer .in domains.
Can I buy a domain for free in India?
You can get a free domain for the first year with many web hosting plans, such as Hostinger's premium plans. However, the domain renews at the normal price after the first year. Truly free domains are rare and unreliable. For a serious website or business email, budget for a paid .in or .com domain.
What is the difference between .in and .co.in?
Both are Indian country-code domains managed by NIXI. A .in domain is open to anyone and is shorter and more memorable. A .co.in domain is meant for commercial use and is often available when the .in is taken. .co.in usually renews slightly cheaper, but people more often mistype it.
Do I need domain privacy protection?
Domain privacy hides your name, phone and address from public WHOIS records, which reduces spam and scam calls. For .com, many registrars like Hostinger, Namecheap and Cloudflare include it free. For .in, privacy add-ons are not allowed, but the .IN Registry's public WHOIS already shows "REDACTED FOR PRIVACY" for your name, address and phone. Avoid paying extra if your registrar already redacts details.
What happens if I forget to renew my domain?
Your website and email stop working once the domain expires. Most registrars give a short grace period to renew at the normal price. After that, the domain enters a redemption period where recovery costs much more. If you still do not renew, anyone can register it. Turn on auto-renew to avoid this.
