Age Calculator
Find your exact age in years, months and days on any date, such as an exam cut-off, plus the weekday you were born and days to your next birthday.
What your result means
The headline is your age in completed years, months and days, which is how age is written on Indian forms. The rows under it give the same age in other ways.
| Result | What it means |
|---|---|
| Your age | Completed years, then completed months, then the days left over, on the “Age on” date. |
| Born on | The weekday and date of your birth, for example Tuesday, 15 May 1990. |
| Next birthday | The weekday and date of your next birthday and the age you will turn. If the “Age on” date is your birthday, you see “Happy birthday!” instead. |
| Days until next birthday | How many days are left until that birthday. |
| Age in months | Completed months since birth, plus the extra days. |
| Age in weeks | Full weeks since birth, plus the extra days. |
| Age in days | The number of days from your date of birth to the “Age on” date. |
For school admission, exams, jobs and pensions, only completed years count. Your age goes up on your birthday, not a day before.
How age is calculated
The calculator counts whole months from your date of birth, then counts the days left over.
- Whole months: count the months from your birth month to the “Age on” month. Step forward that many months from your date of birth. If the month you land in is shorter, use its last day, so 31 January plus 1 month is 28 February.
- Check: if that date is after the “Age on” date, use one month fewer.
- Days: the days from that stepped-forward date to the “Age on” date.
- Years and months: whole months ÷ 12 gives completed years. The remainder is the extra months.
Here is how a short month is handled. Born 31 January 2000, age on 1 March 2026:
- Months from January 2000 to March 2026: 26 × 12 + 2 = 314.
- Step forward 314 months: 31 March 2026. That is after 1 March, so use 313 months.
- Step forward 313 months: 31 February does not exist, so use the last day, 28 February 2026.
- Days from 28 February to 1 March 2026: 1 day.
- 313 ÷ 12 = 26 years, with 1 month left over.
The age is 26 years, 1 month and 1 day. Age in days is counted straight from one date to the other, so leap days are included automatically.
How to use the age calculator
- Enter your date of birth. Type the day, pick the month and type the 4-digit year, or tap the calendar button to pick it.
- Leave Age on as today, or change it to another date. It can be in the past or up to 10 years ahead, so you can enter the cut-off date from an exam notice.
- Read your age and the rows under it. They update as soon as both dates are complete.
If the “Age on” date is before your date of birth, you see an error message instead of a result.
Worked example
Priya was born on 15 May 1990. Her age on 18 October 2026 works out like this:
- Months from May 1990 to October 2026: 36 × 12 + 5 = 437.
- Step forward 437 months from 15 May 1990: 15 October 2026. That is not after 18 October, so 437 months stands.
- Days from 15 October to 18 October 2026: 3.
- 437 ÷ 12 = 36 years, with 5 months left over.
Her age is 36 years, 5 months and 3 days. The calculator also shows:
- Born on: Tuesday, 15 May 1990.
- Age in days: 13,305. From 15 May 1990 to 15 May 2026 is 36 × 365 days plus 9 leap days, which is 13,149. From 15 May to 18 October 2026 adds 156 more.
- Age in weeks: 1,900 weeks and 5 days (1,900 × 7 = 13,300).
- Age in months: 437 months and 3 days.
- Next birthday: Saturday, 15 May 2027, turning 37, in 209 days.
Age as on a cut-off date for exams
Indian recruitment exams check your age on one fixed date printed in the notice, not on the day you apply. Put that date in the “Age on” field.
The UPSC Civil Services Examination 2026 notice is a good example of how these rules are worded. A candidate “must have attained the age of 21 years and must not have attained the age of 32 years on the 1st of August, 2026”. The notice then turns that into dates of birth: born not earlier than 2 August 1994 and not later than 1 August 2005.
The words “not attained 32” catch many people out. Here is what the calculator shows with 1 August 2026 as the “Age on” date:
| Date of birth | Age on 1 August 2026 | Within 21 to 32 (general)? |
|---|---|---|
| 1 August 1994 | 32 years, 0 months, 0 days | No. They turned 32 on the cut-off date. |
| 2 August 1994 | 31 years, 11 months, 30 days | Yes. This is the oldest allowed date of birth. |
| 1 August 2005 | 21 years, 0 months, 0 days | Yes. This is the youngest allowed date of birth. |
| 2 August 2005 | 20 years, 11 months, 30 days | No. They turn 21 one day late. |
So if the result shows exactly the upper age, you are already out. One day younger and you are in.
Age relaxation
Reserved categories get extra years on the upper limit. The calculator does not add these for you, so add them to the limit yourself. For CSE 2026, the notice allows:
- SC and ST: up to 5 years.
- OBC (eligible for reservation): up to 3 years.
- Persons with Benchmark Disabilities (PwBD): up to 10 years.
- Ex-servicemen with at least five years of military service, released on the terms in the notice: up to 5 years.
Someone who belongs to SC, ST or OBC and is also PwBD or an ex-serviceman gets both relaxations added together. Other recruiters, such as SSC, set their own cut-off dates and relaxation rules in each notice, so read the one for your exam.
Which date of birth counts
UPSC accepts only the date of birth in your Matriculation or Secondary School Leaving Certificate, or an equivalent certificate. It does not accept horoscopes, affidavits or municipal birth extracts. Enter the date exactly as it appears on your Class 10 certificate.
Exams often ask for a CGPA as a percentage too. Our CGPA to percentage converter covers that, and if your post needs a typing test, practise with our typing speed test.
Leap year birthdays
If you were born on 29 February, your real birthday comes once every four years. In other years, this calculator takes your birthday as 28 February, so your age goes up on 28 February.
For example, someone born on 29 February 2004 is 20 years, 11 months and 29 days old on 27 February 2025, and turns 21 on 28 February 2025. Some people celebrate on 1 March instead, and some laws treat 1 March as the birthday in non-leap years. For official age, follow the date the relevant rules use.
Limitations
- No relaxation or eligibility check: the calculator gives your age on a date. It does not know your category or the exam’s limits, so compare the result with the notice yourself.
- Time of birth: the calculator works in whole days. It ignores the hour you were born and your time zone.
- Different methods: some apps count a month as a fixed 30 days. Results can then differ by a day or so in the months and days part, mostly near month ends. Completed years always match.
- East Asian age: traditional Korean and Chinese counting starts at 1 at birth. This calculator uses the international method, where you are 0 until your first birthday.
- Calendar: dates use the Gregorian calendar. Birthdays by the Hindu or other lunar calendars fall on different dates each year.
To count the days between any two dates, such as your exam date and today, use our date calculator.
Key facts
- For the Civil Services Examination 2026, a candidate must be at least 21 and must not have attained 32 on 1 August 2026, that is, born between 2 August 1994 and 1 August 2005. (UPSC notice 05/2026-CSE (opens in new tab))
- The same notice relaxes the upper age limit by up to 5 years for SC and ST, 3 years for eligible OBC and 10 years for PwBD candidates. (UPSC notice 05/2026-CSE (opens in new tab))
- UPSC accepts the date of birth only from the Matriculation or Secondary School Leaving Certificate or an equivalent, and does not allow it to be changed later. (UPSC notice 05/2026-CSE (opens in new tab))
- A leap year comes every 4 years, except century years, which are leap years only if they divide by 400. So 2000 was a leap year and 1900 was not. (Britannica (opens in new tab))
- This gives 97 leap years in every 400 years, and an average year of 365.2425 days. (Britannica (opens in new tab))
FAQ
Age Calculator FAQs
How do I calculate my exact age?
Count the whole months from your date of birth to today, then the days left over, and divide the months by 12 to get years. If stepping forward lands past today, use one month fewer. For example, someone born on 15 May 1990 is 36 years, 5 months and 3 days old on 18 October 2026. The calculator does this for you.
How do I calculate age as on a specific date for an exam?
Enter your date of birth, then set the “Age on” date to the cut-off date in the exam notice. For UPSC Civil Services 2026 this is 1 August 2026. SSC and other recruiters print their own date in each notice. Compare the completed years with the limit, and add any category relaxation yourself.
Am I eligible if I turn 32 exactly on the cut-off date?
No, not when the rule says you must not have attained 32 on that date. If you turn 32 on 1 August 2026, you have attained 32, so you are over the general limit for UPSC CSE 2026. Someone born one day later, on 2 August 1994, is 31 years, 11 months and 30 days old and is eligible.
How many days until my birthday?
Enter your date of birth and the calculator shows the days left until your next birthday, with its date and weekday. For example, someone born on 15 May who checks on 18 October 2026 has 209 days to go. If the “Age on” date is your birthday, it shows “Happy birthday!” instead of a countdown.
What day of the week was I born?
Enter your date of birth and the calculator shows the weekday you were born on. For example, 15 May 1990 was a Tuesday. A birthday usually moves one weekday later each year, and two weekdays later when a 29 February falls in between. That is why your birthday falls on a different day each year.
How is age calculated for someone born on 29 February?
In leap years, the birthday is 29 February. In other years, this calculator treats it as 28 February, so the age goes up on 28 February. For example, someone born on 29 February 2004 turns 21 on 28 February 2025. Some people celebrate on 1 March instead, and some laws use 1 March. Official rules may say which date applies.
How many days old am I?
The calculator shows your age in days from your date of birth to today, or to any date you pick. Leap days are counted automatically. For example, a person born on 15 May 1990 is 13,305 days old on 18 October 2026. It also shows the same age in weeks and in months.
Why do age calculators sometimes give different answers?
Age calculators can differ by a day or so because they handle month ends in different ways. Some count a month as a fixed 30 days. This calculator counts whole months from your date of birth and uses the last day of a shorter month, so 31 January plus 1 month is 28 February. Completed years always match.
