Love Calculator Nothing is stored or sent

Just for fun. The score comes from the letters in your names, not from anything about you.

How the love percentage is worked out

The calculator uses the LOVES method, the name game many of us played on the back of a school notebook. It only looks at letters, so the same two names always give the same score.

  1. Write both names together.
  2. Count how many times each letter of LOVES appears: L, O, V, E and S. That gives five numbers.
  3. Add each number to the one next to it and keep only the last digit (7 + 5 = 12 becomes 2). You now have four numbers.
  4. Repeat until two digits are left. Those two digits are the love percentage.

Capital letters, spaces and accents are ignored. Only the English letters count.

Worked example: Ravi and Priya

Together the names read “ravipriya”.

  • Count L, O, V, E, S: one V and none of the others, so 0 0 1 0 0.
  • Add neighbours: 0+0, 0+1, 1+0, 0+0 gives 0 1 1 0.
  • Again: 0+1, 1+1, 1+0 gives 1 2 1.
  • Again: 1+2, 2+1 gives 3 3.

Ravi and Priya score 33%.

Why Rohit and Pooja score 93%

“rohitpooja” has three O’s and no L, V, E or S, so the count is 0 3 0 0 0. That becomes 3 3 0 0, then 6 3 0, then 9 3. Three O’s alone push the score to 93%. That is the whole trick: the score depends on how many L, O, V, E and S letters your names happen to have, not on anything about you.

How FLAMES works

FLAMES stands for Friends, Love, Affection, Marriage, Enemies and Siblings.

  1. Write both names and strike out each letter they share, one for one.
  2. Count the letters left over.
  3. Count round F-L-A-M-E-S by that number and cross out the letter you land on.
  4. Carry on from the next letter, wrapping round, until one letter is left. That is your result.

For Ravi and Priya, the shared letters are R, A and I. That leaves V, P and Y: three letters. Counting three each time crosses out A, then S, then M, then L, then E. F is left, so FLAMES says Friends.

For Rohit and Pooja, only one O is shared. That leaves R, H, I, T and P, O, J, A: eight letters. Counting eight crosses out L, E, M, F and S, leaving A for Affection.

If two names use exactly the same letters, nothing is left to count, so FLAMES gives no result.

What your love score means

Score Label
80% and above Made for each other
60% to 79% Great match
40% to 59% Good chance
20% to 39% Needs some work
Below 20% Just friends?

The labels are part of the game. A 10% says nothing more about two people than a 93% does.

Why other love calculators give a different score

There is no single “correct” love calculator formula. Every site picks its own, and most do not tell you which.

Method How it works Used here?
LOVES count Counts L, O, V, E, S in both names and adds neighbours down to two digits Yes
FLAMES Strikes out shared letters and counts round F-L-A-M-E-S Yes
Name numerology Turns each name into a number from its letters, then compares the two numbers No. See our numerology compatibility tool
Hidden formula or random Gives a number with no working shown No

So the same couple can get 33% here and 85% somewhere else. Neither number is more true. We show every step so you can see where yours came from.

Tips for a fair test

  • Spelling changes the score. “Priya” and “Preeya” have different letters, so they can give different results. Use the spelling each person uses.
  • Nicknames count as different names. “Rohit” and “Ro” give different scores. Try both if you like.
  • Full names add letters. A surname with an S or an E in it will shift the count.
  • Hindi script is not read. Type names in English letters, the way you would write them in a WhatsApp chat.

Want a traditional match instead?

If you are looking at marriage compatibility the way many Indian families do, try kundli matching by name. It scores the 36-point Ashtakoota gun milan from the boy’s and girl’s names and explains each koota. For a quick look at your own name, try the numerology calculator or rashi by name.

FAQ

Love Calculator FAQs

Is the love calculator accurate?

No, and it is not meant to be. The score comes only from how many L, O, V, E and S letters the two names contain, so it says nothing about how two people feel or get on. It is a game, like FLAMES on the back of a notebook. Enjoy it, share it, and do not base decisions on it.

How is the love percentage calculated?

It counts the letters L, O, V, E and S across both names, giving five numbers. It then adds each pair of neighbours and keeps the last digit, over and over, until two digits remain. Those two digits are the percentage. Ravi and Priya, for example, go 0 0 1 0 0, then 0 1 1 0, then 1 2 1, then 33%.

What does FLAMES stand for?

FLAMES stands for Friends, Love, Affection, Marriage, Enemies and Siblings. You strike out the letters two names share, count the letters left, and use that number to cross letters off F-L-A-M-E-S until one is left. If both names use exactly the same letters, nothing is left to count and there is no result.

Why does my score change when I change the spelling?

Both games count letters, so any spelling change changes the count. “Priya” and “Preeya” have different letters, so they can give a different love percentage and a different FLAMES letter. Even one extra E or S can move the score a lot, because each count gets added in at every step.

Should I use first names or full names?

Use whichever you like, as long as you are consistent. Most people use first names or the names they call each other. Full names add more letters and usually give a different result. There is no right answer in a name game, so try both versions and see which one you prefer.

Why do different love calculators give different results?

Each site uses its own formula. This one uses the LOVES letter count and FLAMES, and shows every step. Others turn names into numerology numbers, use a hidden formula or just pick a number. That is why one couple can get 33% here and a very different score elsewhere. None of them measures real compatibility.

Can I type names in Hindi?

No, the love calculator only reads English letters, because both games count letters of the English word LOVES and the English alphabet. Type the names in English, the way you would spell them in a text message. If you want a Hindi-script tool, kundli matching by name and rashi by name both accept names written in Hindi.

Are the names I enter saved?

No. The love calculator runs entirely in your browser, so the names and results never reach our servers and nothing is stored. You can test any pair of names privately. Closing or refreshing the page clears everything, and no account or sign-up is needed to use it.
